A strong story. Well-written. The characters are three-dimensional, the dialogue reads naturally and the pacing is appropriate. It is an engaging read, which had me wanting to read on page after page.
I was going to start with ‘well-written’, but it would be an insult to the writer. She knows it is well-written. No one who has a grasp of their craft as well as this can not know what they are doing.
The idea of moving from the introduction, as an epistle, to the main plank of the plot in realist style, grabs the attention. It may be confusing to the passive reader. The change of genre makes the shift vivid. The dark, edgy style is very well crafted. The writing is slick and works well. Engaging and flows well. This is probably achieved by the show don’t tell, characterisation of the storyline and the lack of overkill. I want more of this.
There are many gorgeously written passages throughout this novel. The story is gripping, compelling and intense that will have readers on the edge of their seats. I really cared about what happened to the characters.
I really enjoyed the language of this novel. The narrative is dream-like and scenes shift and move in line with the mental turmoil of characters. Clever and appropriate.
A gripping psychological drama. The two wild landscapes in the novel are so strongly described that they could almost be characters themselves. I genuinely cared about the characters fortunes and was intrigued by their story.
This was an incredibly emotional story from beginning to end. I was invested in Lena’s story and I was so proud of the way she picked herself up at the end. I think this book is one that will expose a lot of readers to a part of the world they may not even really think about existing in their day-to-day lives. I thought some of the lines were phenomenal and overall it was a great story with a lot of depth. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for something to fill them with sorrow and tears but also with love, light, and strength.
Absolutely phenomenal ending. I was in tears. Great job.
The way you bring the weather and nature into this is perfection. It’s woven together beautifully.
One of the most powerful scenes I’ve read recently. Amazing
“The love in him was like withered brown leaves on the autumn forest floor weighed down by days of rain that highlighted the black and white of the birch tree like smudged mascara.” – This is really phenomenal writing. Some of these lines really took my breath away.
The symbolism is so well done. I could see papers being written about this in English classes. Great job.
